The Andersons wanted to replace a 24-year-old gas furnace and three noisy window air conditioners in their 1928 bungalow, without opening walls or losing the home’s character.
The original ductwork was undersized for cooling, and the upstairs bedrooms were 6°F warmer than the main floor in summer.
Our solution included:
- A Manual J load calculation showed a 3-ton system was enough, half the size the previous quote proposed.
- A cold-climate ducted heat pump with a variable-speed air handler replaced the furnace and all three window units.
- Two new return ducts upstairs balanced airflow between floors.
- Rebates and tax credits worth $3,250 were filed on the homeowners’ behalf.
The first winter heating bill was 46% lower than the year before, and upstairs and downstairs now stay within a degree of each other.
